Have you tried looking up the game for an explanation of how the pieces move? That will help you identify each share.

Each shape, apologies. Each of the shapes on the board represents a different chess piece. Write them in and you'll be able to get your answer.

Of course I did that at the start but do you have different names for some of the pieces? I can’t get real words!

When you've written the correct pieces in the spaces, you should be able to read a word down the arrow. If you can't make a word, it may be that you have one or more of the pieces labelled incorrectly?

But the grid has the wrong number of squares... Shouldn't it be 8x8?

Strictly speaking yes it would be. That's why this image fades out so you can't see the whole board...
